Zavalatica is a small bay located approximately in the middle the southern coast of the island of Korcula, overlooking the open sea and the archipelago of Lastovo. The closest coastal settlements are Brna to the west, and Lumbarda to the east. The southern shore of the island of Korcula is very indented and not as accessible as the northern coast. Here you can find many nice bays that are accessible by boat only - some of these bays feature small pebble beaches. Few kilometres to the west from Zavalatica one of the most popular and most beautiful beaches on the island Korcula is located; Pupnatska Luka. Near Pupnatska Luka, small bay Ripna with pebble beach is located. From Zavalatica, the easiest way to reach Pupnatska Luka is by car, using the road from Zavalatica through Cara - it takes 10 to 15 minutes to get there, which is approximately the same as the distance from Zavalatica to beach nice sand beach Istruga in Brna.
The holiday village of Zavalatica is located in a picturesque bay that cuts deep into the rocky shores of the island of Korcula. The coast of the bay is rocky, and the sea is perfectly clear and clean thanks to sea currents that constantly bring fresh sea water from the open seas. Along the coast of the bay, many holiday houses are located and in front of these houses the rocky shore has been developed with concrete slabs to form nice spots for sunbathing and easy sea access. Outside of the village, there are many nice swimming spots on the rocky shore, that can be easily reached by local roads, and where is it always possible to find intimate and peaceful spot by the sea. In the local port there is a large stone and concrete pier, which is perfect for sunbathing and swimming. Even though it is located in the port, the sea is perfectly clear and the traffic there is minimal, even in the busiest summer days. And just few minutes from the centre of Zavalatica, one of the most beautiful beaches on the island of Korcula is located - beach Zitna.
The bay of Zitna is deep, well protected bay that hides one of the most romantic beaches on the island of Korcula. Located just few hundred metres from the centre of Zavalatica, beach Zitna is easily accessible and it is the favourite bathing spot for visitors of Zavalatica and nearby places on the island of Korcula like Cara and Smokvica. The beach is accessible by car, and there is a small parking above the beach, but since the beach is very close to Zavalatica we recommend short 10 minutes walk through the nature. The bay of Zitna is surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation and the beach is hidden from the view from the sea, so many boats pass by unaware of the hidden gem located at the bottom of the bay. The bay is uninhabited, with just one private holiday house available for rent just above the beach. Zitna is a a pebble beach, ideal for small children with warm water and long, shallow entrance to the sea. The seabed in the bay of Zitna is made up of sand and dappled by underwater meadows of seagrass, with rich underwater life. The sea in and around Zitna is full of life and it is very inviting for snorkelling and free diving. Lush surface and submarine vegetation together with shallow sea and sandy seabed create beautiful turquoise colour. There is not much shade to be found on the beach, but above the beach there are pine trees that offer protection from hot summer sun. There are toilets above the beach.
If you find beach Zitna too crowded, and you would like to enjoy some peace and intimacy, then you should proceed further to the east from beach Zitna, after 20 minutes of walk by the sea and through the nature, you will discover small, peaceful bay of Cavica Vala (also known as Cavica Luka), that harbours small pebble beach. Cavica Vala is small bay, oriented towards south-east and it overlooks the island of Lastovo. The beach in Cavica Vala is a pebble one, just about 20 metres long, with long and shallow entrance to the sea. The rocky coast around the beach gently descends to the sea, creating large, flat slabs that are ideal for sunbathing. There are no houses in the beach, only beautiful nature, peace and tranquillity since the area around Cavica Vala it is completely uninhabited. The sea is crystal clear and clean, and the area is ideal for snorkelling. Above the beach, there is a small chapel, built by the people of Cara, that marks the spot of the apparition of Our Lady Of The Field in the year of 1686. The church and the sanctuary of Our Lady Of The Field are located in Cara, and every year on 25. of July a procession takes place that starts in Cavica Vala with blessing of boats, proceeds through the field of Cara famous for wine Posip and ends in the Church of Our Lady Of The Field in Cara.
