Lumbarda boasts with some of the best sand beaches in Dalmatia and it is among most popular destinations for families with small children on the entire Croatian Adriatic coast, mostly because of these beautiful beaches but also because of the peace and tranquillity of the region and rich tourist offer. There are several small sand and pebble beaches in the centre of Lumbarda, which are primarily used by locals, but three famous beaches that attract visitors from the entire island of Korcula are located on the outskirts of Lumbarda, surrounded by beautiful nature and crystal clear sea. Since these beaches are very popular, they are very crowded in the main season, but still it is always possible to find spot for yourself and your family. These are sandy beaches, with very shallow entrance to the water, and clean, fine sand. Please be advised that, by default, in Croatia pets are not allowed on public beaches, but you can take them to specially designated, pet friendly beaches. Unfortunately, there are no such beaches in the area of Lumbarda. If you would like to take your dog for a refreshment, then generally you should look for spots off the beaten track, with few people there. In Lumbarda, there is an area called "Lenga Brendana", an isolated stirp of the shore where you can find peaceful spot and enjoy the sea with your pet.
Among the usual visitors of the island of Korcula, and especially for families with small children, the most popular beach is "Vela Przina" beach, whose name in Croatian means "big sandy beach". The beach is located on the southern side of eastern tip of the island Korcula and it is the most crowded beach on the island. It overlooks the Lastovo channel, and the horizons of the open sea. It is shielded from all winds, except for those of southern directions, which blow strong here mainly in autumn and winter, raising large waves that keep the sand perfectly clean. The beach is connected to Lumbarda by a narrow asphalt road that stretches along the wine grooves. The beach is located approximately 1.5 kilometres from the centre of Lumbarda - you can get to "Vela Przina" beach within 15 minutes of walk or by a car - there is a large parking space close to the beach.
"Bilin zal" is another popular sand beach, which is located on the opposite side to "Vela Przina", on the norther side of the island, overlooking the peninsula of Peljesac and the "Skoji" archipelago. It is much smaller then "Vela Przina", and it is the most popular beach for local population. There is a small restaurant there in a traditional Dalmatian stone house where you can refresh yourself with a drink or some food. The beach is located approximately 1 kilometre from the center of Lumbarda, in the direction of east. Parking place can be found close to the beach.
"Tatinja" is a small bay located just 350 metres from the centre of Lumbarda, with small sandy beach. Surrounded by lots of coffee and snack bars, pizzerias and restaurants, is a perfect spot for those that want to be close to everything while on the beach. It is also popular beach for the local population.
All along the coast of Lumbarda there are many smaller sandy and pebble spots that can be considered as small beaches, and it is very interesting to walk around the town and get a refreshment in the sea from time to time. There is a pebble beach in the town centre, right next to the main port, with a beach bar on it which is a perfect place for spending lazy days on the beach.
"Lenga Brendana" is 1 kilometre long strip of rocky shore that stretches between the beach "Bilin Zal" and the easternmost cape of the island Korcula, called "Cape Raznjic". This area is covered with lush vegetation of pine trees, and there you can find isolated spot for you and your pet. This are is perfect for those that seek peace and tranquillity, which can be found here even in the most crowded summer days. This part of the shore is not easily accessible, and not as inviting as friendly as inviting as nearby sandy shores of Lumbarda, but it is perfect for people in love with the nature. Due to the position on the eastern cape of the island of Korcula, sea currents are strong here, and always bring fresh water which makes the sea in this area pristine clear and clean, ideal for snorkelling and diving. However, one should be very careful when entering/exiting the sea, because sharp rocks can be very dangerous if you are not very careful, especially when there are waves on the sea. One must also be very careful not to step on a sea-urchin - not particularly dangerous, but rather painful experience.
