Catamarans are passenger only boats and on a ferry you can get with a car. Please be advised that it is possible to book ferry tickets in advance using Jadrolinija.hr services. Tickets can also be bought in the local offices of shipping companies which are located in ferry ports. Ferries and catamarans are among best organised means of transports in Croatia, mainly because local island population depends largely on good connections with mainland. If you are travelling without a car, then there is always place for you on the ferry, and you should not worry purchasing tickets in advance, but on a catamaran (passenger speed boat) the number of places is limited so it is very recommendable to purchase tickets as early as possible. If you are travelling by car, then your only option is ferry - when you arrive to ferry port, put the car in the waiting line immediately upon arrival, and then purchase the tickets. If there are too many cars, additional ferry will be introduced (you can expect this only on Saturdays in high season, which is middle of July to middle of August). On the island of Korcula there are two main ferry ports, Domince which is located 2 kilometres from the town of Korcula and ferry port in Vela Luka which is located in town centre. Additional catamaran ports are in Prigradica and town Korcula port, in the town centre.
Taxies and buses on the island of Korcula adjust their schedules to the arrival of ferries and catamarans. When you exit the boat, there will be always several taxies waiting for passengers, so you will always find your own means of transport, and you should not worry about this. Ferry port in Vela Luka is connected via the bus line with the rest of the island and the town of Korcula.
Ferry port Domince is newly built ferry terminal, located around 2 kilometres to the east from the Korcula town. The ferry port does not have a bus station , but there is one nearby in the settlement above the ferry port also called Domince that connects it with Lumbarda and town Korcula - you will either need to take a taxi, or walk to this bus station. You can also walk to the town of Korcula, which takes around 25 minutes. You do not need to follow the main road, there is a very nice promenade along the sea which goes below through hotel resort "Bon Repos", below camping "Kalac" and the eastern suburb of town Korcula in Korculanska Luka bay. In ferry port Domince a gas station is located, that serves both boats and vehicles.
Ferry Orebic (peninsula Peljesac) - town Korcula
This is the shortest, most important and most regular (almost every hour) ferry line for the island of Korcula. It connects the island with the mainland, and it is the heartbeat of the island. The duration of the voyage is 15 minutes. This ferry connects the island of Korcula with Orebic, the largest town on peninsula Peljesac. Once in Orebic, you can proceed to your destination by car, on narrow road along the peninusla, or you can drive to nearby port of Trpanj on Peljesac and then take the ferry to Ploce, thus avoid driving along the peninsula of Peljesac. Click for prices and detailed schedule.
Ferry Ploce - Trpanj (peninsula Peljesac)
Ferry Drvenik - town Korcula
(discontinued after 2014.)
This is high season only ferry that departs from the ferry port in the little town of Drvenik, on Makarska riviera. This is the best option for getting directly to town Korcula by ferry, avoiding the ferry port of Split and then driving from Vela Luka all across the island to the town of Korcula. This is very popular way of reaching the island of Korcula, but the problem with this ferry is that the concession to ferry company is given for the duration of one season, usually at the end of the month of May, thus making detailed sailing schedule and prices unavailable until the very start of the high tourist season. This ferry is currently discontinued, but if it becomes available again we will publish all the information on this page.
On the peninsula where the old town of Korcula is located, there are two town ports, one to the east and one on the western part of the peninsula. The port on the eastern side of the peninsula was used as a ferry port, before the modern terminal in Domince was built on the eastern suburb of the town of Korcula. Today, in this eastern port of the town of Korcula catamaran from Split and Dubrovnik dock. The locations of these ports are very convenient, because they are located in the centre of the Korcula town, just few minutes from the bus terminal in the town of Korcula. Also, from these ports there are many smaller passenger ports that drive several times per day to nearby islands and to holiday villages on the peninsula of Peljesac like Viganj and Kuciste. Tickets for both catamarans and these smaller passenger boats can be obtained on several kiosks located there.
